About the Classroom
Our TK-K class serves children 4 to 6 years old. We strive to create a nurturing environment for the children where they can engage in independent work, one-on-one lessons with a teacher or small group lessons. The children are encouraged to follow their interests and explore the materials available. The teachers guide lessons in Geography, Science, Math, Language, Sensorial, Art, Spanish, Practical Life and Social Skills. Our teaching practices enable us to focus on the individual needs and learning styles of each student. Children are encouraged to work at their own pace, progressing through the curriculum according to their individual needs and abilities. Children are also encouraged to work with their peers, enabling peer-teaching skills to be developed. We feel strongly about supporting children in their social interactions and teach the importance of respectful and peaceful communication and problem-solving.
Whole group lessons occur during daily group time and include lessons relating to specific curriculum topics, as well as, songs, mindfulness exercises, yoga, book reading and sharing time.
Each day we enjoy outside time in the courtyard area or in the woods by the creek. On rainy or cold days we play in the gym.
