My journey in the Montessori classroom began in Statesville, North Carolina where I was given several awesome opportunities at Statesville Montessori School. I first served as an assistant in one of the 6-9 classrooms. I was inspired by the philosophy and the impact it had on the children and it seemed to “fit” who I am as a person. I was later invited to attend training as a 6-9 teacher and spent several years in that capacity. I found myself interested in learning more about the foundation piece of Montessori so when an opening in the 3-6 program came available, I was given another opportunity to train in the 3-6 program. I spent some marvelous years with the younger children at the Children’s House and am so very grateful for that experience. Following a move to Boone, I found myself teaching in one of the 3-6 classrooms at Mountain Pathways School. I retired from that position to care for my infant grandson and spent several delightful years with him until it was time for him to attend preschool :(
Just when I thought my classroom years were over, I find myself coming full circle as I enter my second year at Kinderwood. What a joy it is to be back in the classroom and spend time with the 6-9 children and co-teach with Melissa!
My favorite things include (but are not limited to) spending time with my family, quilting and embroidery of any kind, eating dark chocolate, reading a good book, gardening and my rescue cat, Blackberry. I do so enjoy getting up in the morning and coming to a place where children and adults are respected and valued. My wish is that I find myself here in another 20 years!
